The issue arose because he connected positive and negative to both the Up and Down terminals simultaneously, which is incorrect. These motors require a body earth and power to only one terminal at a time. We demonstrated the proper connection and powered it up correctly in front of him. Although he left grumbling, he likely appreciated the clarification.
