Steering Shaft: 78-92 Firebird TA & Camaro W/o shrould

SKU: AUS7881

Production Completed and in stock.

This is the 78-81 F & 82-92 F without shroud intermediate steering shaft.. between where it comes out of the firewall & connects to the steering coupling at the steering box end.

(1) NOTE: .... this has the early series Squared head with CENTERED bolt for the steering column to push into & does NOT have a coupling side bolt...it is the center bolt.  Upper bolt NOT supplied.

It's All Brand New.

This will fit LH or RH drive requirements. You must add your lower coupling connector if fitting to a RH Drive.. RH steering box converted car.. (see point 3)

It's for 1978-81 Camaro and Firebird TA & can be used on up to 1992 Camaro & Firebird.. where you elect to either refit a plastic shroud or if not used .. just use as is if LHS.. perfect.

(2) It fits Manual or Auto trans,.. with power Steering or Manual Steer, but add the coupling needed.

(3) If you have a HOLDEN RHD steering box in your car.. you will need to change the lower couple half over to the one you have to marry up with the HQ steering box, ask us for help on this if unclear.

NOTE: Another typical complaint on these.. new and older.. is a bit of clunking... usually a lack of grease in a few either at manufacturer of the way it may have settled in the house over the years as a service replacement part.. or from years of use and never being re-greased internally - that's all.. they chatter a little.

I've done a series of these that could have been noisy .. fixed it straight away..
Probably in the original design from GM.. in reality.. these needed a grease injection point.. they are a linked part.. like any ball joint etc..
Having now fitted one to a car and greased it.. its quieter then many original GM ones... Might also be worth doing or suggesting to customers to think about. As shown below on couple we have done...
