Caliper: Rear 79-81 Firebird Trans Am Fully Assembled
Reviews

There is a need on some cars for you to have 2 x RH.. others you need a LH & A RH..

BUT a LH & RH is factory.   LH Caliper.. has a "L" stamped into the thread of the screw shaft..

LH is USA drivers Side.

Over the last few years  (since say 2018) . the US Suppliers could not get their act into gear .. with LH non existant..  they're boxing RH threaded rear calipers into LH boxes..    the rebuilds are coming in wrong.. new ones are all RH.. Caddy used this caliper and whoever copied them.. copied the Caddy RH Caliper and not changed the piston.

We are asking you if you need these.. CALL US FIRST for the latest stock.. and tell us if your needing a caliper for LH or RH or both..:

(A) if both calipers are on the FORWARD SIDE of the DIFF..

(B) if the LHS is FORWARD  and the RHS is Rear of the diff.

This then includes people who have had a disc rear retro fitted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Complete American Rebuilt Rear Calipers... Complete with new pistons, calipers fully assembled ready to add pads (pads not included) - bleed and fit.

These specifically fit the 79-81 Firebird & Trans am Rear Disc - as optioned on the 79-81 TA

They are LH (IE USA Drivers side) or RH.. they do NOT interchange.

  • There is NO deposit needed or return of your old unit.. but do not just throw them away.. the pistons are tough to get and worth removing just for spares if not stuffed already etc.
  • Add disc pads if needed

  • THE LHS .. has at  the main shaft end..where the handbrake lever is attached..the letter "L" stamped into it.. that is the American Drivers side but as of April 2015 some brand new ones are out there.

  • ALL.. have R on the casting. its  DOES NOT MEAN RIGHT.. it's just a casting.

  • ALL HAVE Casting # 451.. not 450 or x89Hyundai.. just "451"

  • Add disc pads if needed.

  • These are not some cheesy ebay unknown clean up but a USA remanufactured  GM original unit.... complete.

  • If you have time to think about these.. and your needing to overhaul the original rear calipers..these are a bit of money but a FAR BETTER deal then overhauling and replacing parts like the super expensive & near impossible to get... new pistons and more..

  • You get more done with this kit then doing it yourself.

  • There is NO Core or old exchange unit needed on this item now.. this is supplied outright.
  • CAUTION:  Don't for petes sake bash or hit the piston in these with anything.. they are SCREW recessing/expanding pistons....not a hydraulic pump out..hit them and you or your mechanic will stuff them. These are inspected PROIR to dispatch.

DELIVERY via standard road freight within Australia on ordered placed & paid on line for this part, a bit extra needed for WA regional and NT.

HELP: with rear disc brakes

Incorrectly bled or adjusted rear calipers

Rear calipers that have an internal parking brakewith a lever can be troublesome. These calipers must be adjusted so that the piston is moved out and the pads are close to the rotor. If this initial adjustment is not made the pistons will travel outward during activation but no squeezing of the rotor will occur. This can be checked by clamping off the rear hoses and checking if the pedal gets better. Adjust as necessary.

Incorrect Booster Pin Length

The booster pin that pushes on the master cylinder must almost be touching the master cylinder piston face. A gap larger than 1/32" will begin to introduce a spongy pedal. Adjust as necessary.

Incorrect Master Cylinder

If the bore size of the master cylinder is too small for the fluid requirements of the system you will get a very poor pedal. This will happen most frequently with four piston calipers and with four wheel disc brakes. The only solution for this is to install a larger bore master cylinder or a true four wheel disc master

Bleeder Screws MUST always be ON TOP

Doing a brake custom job.. then remember that the bleeder screws on calipers must be at the 12:00 position on the caliper to allow all the air to escape during bleeding.

A very common mistake installers will make is to reverse the side the caliper goes on giving you a situation where the caliper bleeder screw is facing down. It's also common to use the wrong caliper on a bolt on disc kit giving a situation where the bleeder hole is shifted from the 12:00 position producing a pocket of air at the top of the caliper bore which can not be dislodged. Check your bleeder hole orientation.
